If it seems like we just wrapped up 17.1, it’s because we did. After two deadline extensions due to website issues, the first workout of the 2017 Open concluded Wednesday night. On the women’s side, 2x Europe regional athlete Sara Armanius took the top spot with a time of 9:46, that’s just one second faster than 2013 Games champ Sam Briggs. On the men’s side, Nicolai Duus, another European athlete, was able to complete the workout in 9:41.

On to 17.2! In just a few hours, CrossFit Games director Dave Castro will announce the details of the second workout of the Open from Rogue Fitness Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Kari Pearce, fifth fittest woman on Earth, will throw down against Kristi Eramo, a 2016 Games rookie who finished in eighth overall.

The question on everyone’s mind is, what’s the workout? Now that the much hyped dumbbell workout is out of the way, we’re betting 17.2 is a more ‘traditional’ CrossFit Open workout. Yesterday, Castro took to Instagram and posted this photo as a clue:

17.2

So what do we decipher from this? Actually, we read some facebook comments that thought made sense: Koi carp have ‘whiskers’ called barbells; specifically, they have “two pairs of barbells, one of them being quite small”.

Now it doesn’t add up perfectly, but we’re predicting 17.2 is…

16.2

Beginning on a 4-minute clock, complete as many reps as possible of:
25 toes-to-bars
50 double-unders
15 squat cleans, 135 / 85 lb.

If completed before 4 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
25 toes-to-bars
50 double-unders
13 squat cleans, 185 / 115 lb.

If completed before 8 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
25 toes-to-bars
50 double-unders
11 squat cleans, 225 / 145 lb.

If completed before 12 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
25 toes-to-bars
50 double-unders
9 squat cleans, 275 / 175 lb.

If completed before 16 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
25 toes-to-bars
50 double-unders
7 squat cleans, 315 / 205 lb.

Stop at 20 minutes.

Enjoy!
