The sanctioned events keep coming – this time by a company most of us in the CrossFit community are familiar with – Rogue Fitness (it’s easy to lose track, but to date, this looks to be the 17th announced sanctioned event). On Thursday, the company announced they will be hosting the Rogue Invitational in Columbus, Ohio on the weekend of May 18th and the 19th. The event will take place at their company headquarters.

The event will host 20 male and 20 female individual athletes, along with 10 teams. As per Rogue’s announcement on Instagram, invites will be sent to the top 10 male and female finishers at the 2018 CrossFit Games along with a number of athletes “from the top ranks of the sport”. It looks like Ben Smith who finished 12th at last years Games has already received and unofficially accepted the invitation. The final spots will be filled via an online qualifier which will be announced at a later date.

It’s safe to say this will be a smaller event than most of the sanctioned events already announced – at least in the total number of athletes competing. However, with a total prize purse of over $400,000 and a reputation to draw some of the biggest names in the sport, we expect a lot of big names competing.

Here’s the full release from Rogue:
