Friday begins with Events 1 and 2, and Event 1 in particular will test the communication and chemistry of teams at Regionals. Athletes will be tasked with performing partner deadlifts and synchronized chest-to-bar pull-ups, and any slip-ups in either of these movements could prove costly by the end of the weekend. The fact that the movements have to be performed as a male/female pair means that teams need to practice using an uneven bar for the deadlifts, and ensure that their timing is on point for those pull-ups. Event 2 is all about sharing the workload. The barbell is going to be passing hands often as all male team members, then all female members, have to get through a heavy workload. Strategy, rep and rest schemes will be key. The first event of Saturday will be event 3, and the TrueForm runner will feature heavily. While not an all-out sprint, athletes will be moving quickly on the hybrid treadmill before working their way through a relatively small amount of wall balls.
Saturday will finish up with arguably the two most exciting events of the competition. With a two-minute recess between events, teams will first have to post their max total for the snatch before moving on to a 6×100-ft handstand walk. While teams have 6 minutes in total to post their total snatch score, each athlete only has 1 minute to post their 1-rep-max snatch. So athletes need to tread the line between a safe weight and a high score, because they’ll likely only have one shot at a lift.
The Team competition rounds off with Events 6 and 7 on Sunday, and Event 7 in particular looks to be as complicated as it may be fun. With a ‘follow the leader’ style similar to Event 4 of the 2014 CrossFit Invitational, teams will need to be on point with their strategy to ensure that they put their athletes in the right positions for success.
Best of luck to all the Teams competing at the 2015 CrossFit Regionals!
