Legends Division: Honoring CrossFit Icons
The Rogue Invitational Legends Division is returning to the stage in 2024, bringing together 16 of the most accomplished and beloved athletes in CrossFit history.
This roster celebrates former champions, long-time Games competitors, and iconic figures who have shaped the sport over the years.
Among them are five former Fittest on Earth titleholders, and together, they’ve made an astounding 94 appearances at the CrossFit Games.
Many have stood on the podium in some of the most challenging years of CrossFit, covering nearly every Games season from 2007 to 2021.
Here’s a closer look at this year’s Legends Division roster, which includes both male and female CrossFit icons.
Women’s Legends Competitors
- Annie Sakamoto
Known as one of CrossFit’s “Nasty Girls,” Sakamoto competed as an individual in 2011, finishing ninth. She later found great success as a Master’s athlete, securing three podium finishes, including first place in the 45-49 division in 2021. She’s also celebrated for being the namesake of the benchmark CrossFit workout “Annie.” - Kari Pearce
With seven consecutive CrossFit Games appearances from 2015 to 2021, Pearce is remembered for her resilience and standout performances. Her most notable achievement was a third-place finish in 2020, where she dominated the final event, “Atalanta.” - Kristan Clever
Clever was crowned Fittest Woman on Earth in 2010, and she nearly repeated the feat in 2011, finishing second. Known for her consistency, Clever also won back-to-back CrossFit Open titles in 2011 and 2012. - Kristin Holte
Holte’s CrossFit career includes eight Games appearances, with five top-10 finishes and a second-place overall finish in 2019. Despite retiring from competition, Holte continues to impact the sport by coaching top athletes through her program, Kriger Training. - Margaux Alvarez
Alvarez competed in seven consecutive Games from 2013 to 2019, excelling both as an individual and as part of the Invictus X team. Her highest individual finish was ninth place. - Rebecca Voigt Miller
Nicknamed CrossFit’s “Iron Woman,” Voigt Miller has competed in 16 Games, spanning individual and Masters divisions. She achieved her best individual finish, third place, in 2011 and continues to inspire with multiple podium finishes as a Masters competitor. - Samantha Briggs
Known as the “Engine from England,” Briggs won the title of Fittest Woman on Earth in 2013 and had two additional podium finishes as a Masters athlete. In 2023, she captured first place in the 40-44 Masters division. - Tanya Wagner
Wagner’s two CrossFit Games appearances were monumental: she placed second in 2008 and then won the title of Fittest Woman on Earth in 2009. Her early success helped define the competitive spirit of the sport.
Men’s Legends Competitors
- Ben Smith
With 11 Games appearances and a 2015 Fittest Man on Earth title, Smith is one of CrossFit’s most accomplished athletes. He currently coaches two-time Rogue Invitational champion Laura Horvath and second-place Games finisher Gabriela Migala. - Chris Spealler
Known for his endurance and grit, Spealler competed in the first seven Games, achieving a career-best third-place finish in 2010. He also reached the Masters podium with a third-place finish in 2017. - Dan Bailey
Bailey was a consistent performer in his five Games appearances, each time finishing in the top 10. His best result was a fourth-place finish in 2015, his final individual Games appearance. - Josh Bridges
Bridges, a former Navy SEAL, is celebrated for his competitive drive and memorable performances. With multiple top-10 finishes, he’s remained a fan favorite throughout his CrossFit career. - Tommy Hackenbruck
Hackenbruck is a versatile competitor, known for his strength and adaptability. He was a strong individual athlete and led his team to success in multiple Games appearances. - Jason Khalipa
Khalipa is a CrossFit legend, winning the title of Fittest Man on Earth in 2008 and continuing to compete at the top level for nearly a decade. He’s known for his athleticism and his contributions to the growth of CrossFit as a sport. - Mikko Salo
Salo captured the title of Fittest Man on Earth in 2009, setting a standard for strength and determination. Despite injury setbacks, his competitive spirit and impact on the sport remain influential. - Rich Froning
A four-time Fittest Man on Earth, Froning’s dominance in the sport is unrivaled. His athleticism and leadership continue to inspire both fans and athletes worldwide.
The Prize Purse and Unique Funding Model
The Rogue Invitational offers one of the largest prize purses of the off-season, designed with both cash and cryptocurrency components:
- Cash Investment: Rogue has invested $1 million in cash as a base prize pool.
- Bitcoin Stake: An additional $275,000 in Bitcoin (purchased at $35,000 per coin) was added to allow potential growth, with final payouts based on the Bitcoin’s value at the purse’s close.
- Additional Contributions: Ticket sales, qualifier fees, and merchandise proceeds from the Rogue Invitational T-shirt and GORUCK Ballistic Trainers add further funds to the purse.
