The list of sanctioned events keeps growing, and this time, CrossFit has blessed an event in its homeland – but not until 2020. The West Coast CrossFit Classic will kick off in March 2020 in Del Mar, California, owned and operated by Loud and Live Sports which also owns the sanctioned Wodapalooza Miami CrossFit Festival event. As with other sanctioned events, the top male and female finisher as well as the top four-person team will punch a ticket to the CrossFit Games. Top Finishing athletes will also earn a cash prize, though the details of this have not been released.
As this event will not take place until 2020, it’s starting to look like the 2018-19 CrossFit Games season will be the first without a competitive qualifying event in its home state. Previously, the Games were held in Aromas and Carson, California before moving to Madison, Wisconsin in 2017.
The only other sanctioned events confirmed for 2020 are the Pandaland CrossFit Challenge in China and the SouthFit CrossFit Challenge in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both events will take place in December 2019.
