CrossFit Team Series: Week 2 Update

Written by Damect Dominguez

The CrossFit Team Series returned this past week, as four new workouts were announced last Thursday (September 18th). Teams around the world had until Monday, 5pm Pacific Time to complete the workouts and submit their scores, and as of today, a new team sits atop the leaderboard.

Rogue Fitness Red (Dan Bailey, Josh Bridges, Lauren Fisher and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet) posted consistently high scores across all four workouts, posting the highest score in event 6 (an AMRAP of deadlifts and handstand push-ups), as well as two 2nd place finishes in events 5 and 7. Their only ‘slip-up’ came in event 8 (a 2-rep-max bench press), where they finished 10th. Still, their overall performance was enough to ensure that after eight workouts, Rogue Fitness Red occupies the top of the Team Series leaderboard. Team Reebok East (Scott Panchik, Ben Smith, Stacie Tovar and Emily Bridgers), who were in 1st position after the first four workouts, fell to 2nd place overall, despite posting the top score for event 7 (a relay of 21-15-9 overhead squats and toes-to-bar). Rogue Fitness Black (Rich Froning, Jason Khalipa, Samantha Briggs and Julie Foucher) were the early favorites to win the CrossFit Team Series, yet they have slipped from 2nd to 3rd after eight workouts. A  1st place finish in event 8 was not enough to overcome a disappointing 12th place finish in event 5 (a chipper-style WOD made up of 150 wall-balls, 100 cleans and 50 muscle-ups), leaving Rogue Fitness Black in 3rd place overall.

With one week left in the Team Series competition, the surprise squad has been PRGNX (Progenex) Dark Horse, who currently lie in 4th overall, 30 points out of 3rd place. With a fitting team name, Dark Horse doesn’t have any huge on its squad. Still, the group of Adrian Conway, Brennan Fjord, Sheena Hammer and Mandi Janowitz are proving that you don’t have to be famous to be fit.

The final set of workouts are due to be released on October 9th, and the race for the top spot is finely balanced, with only five points separating Rogue Fitness Black in 3rd from Rogue Fitness Red in 1st.

Have you signed up for the Team Series? How are you enjoying the experience, what do you think of the workouts that have been released so far? Let us know your thoughts!
