How Much Did the Top Athletes Make at the 2019 CrossFit Games?

Written by Damect Dominguez

Over the years, the prize purse at the CrossFit Games has slowly increased. This year though, it looked pretty similar to the amounts rewarded to athletes at the 2018 Games. The only difference is displayed in a $15,000 increase awarded to the second-place overall finisher.

This means the fittest on earth, Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey walked away with $300,000 for their overall win. Second-place finishers Noah Ohlsen and Kristin Holte took $115,000 home as their reward, and third place athletes Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson and Jamie Greene earned $75,000.

That’s not all though. Prizes are also awarded to those placing first, second, and third in individual events. First place in an individual event is given $3,000, followed by $2,000 for second, and $1,000 for third. This means Fraser, the weekend’s top earner, took home an extra $22,000 after earning six event wins and two-second places finishes at this year’s Games, bringing his total earnings to a cool $322,000. On the women’s side, Tia-Claire Toomey added $15,000 in prize money by winning five events, one second-place finish, and two third places.

We also witnessed a change take place in the team’s prize purse. First place team, Mayhem Freedom, was awarded the regular amount of $100,000, while the second-place finishers on team CrossFit Krypton earned $70,000 (an increase of $10,000 from last year’s event). Third place followed the same trend, leaving CrossFit Invictus with $40,000. Fourth and fifth place awards also took an increase, adding $5,000 to last year’s total.
