Rich Froning & Scott Panchik Will Go Head-to-Head For CrossFit Open Workout 20.1

Written by William Imbo

Rich Froning is back to individual competition—at least for a day. On October 10th the 4x Individual CrossFit Games champ will go head-to-head against Mr. Consistency and 8x CrossFit Games competitor Scott Panchik for the live announcement of 20.1 – the first workout of the 2020 Open.

The battle between Froning and Panchik dates back to 2012 when both men competed out of Central East Regional. Remember Regionals? While Froning has gotten the best of Panchik in the past, 2019 may be a different story. Panchik is coming off of one of his best Games performance, placing 4th overall. Froning, who has been removed from individual competition for the last four years, has admittedly scaled back his total training volume. However, who’s the favorite is anyone’s guess. What were their Open results in 2019? Panchik finished 11th in the world while Froning finished just one spot ahead, at 10th.

The workout, presented by Rogue, will stream live from Austin, TX at 7 pm CST. From the looks of it, this one is going to be pretty epic.

Oh, and let’s not forget the best part. After the Open announcement, you’ll have just over three days to beat their score and submit it to games.crossfit.com.
