After Team Europe’s surprising victory (to some, I guess) at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Invitational, Dave Castro made two much anticipated announcements regarding changes to the CrossFit Games.
The CrossFit Games Find a New Home
Back in April, CrossFit Games General Manager Justin Bergh announced that after seven years at the Stub Hub Center, the Games would be moving to a new location. Since then, Castro has hinted toward several cities that were in the running including Jacksonville, FL and Boston, MA. In the end, it’s the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin that won the bid and will be the new home of the CrossFit Games. The Games are currently scheduled for August 1-6.
New Masters Division
During the Cool-down show, Castro also confirmed that starting in 2017 the Games will be adding a 35-39 masters division. Fans are already excited about the new division as former legends of the sport including Chris Spealler, Matt Chan and Mikko Salo (if they choose to compete) will now have a better platform to test their fitness.
