Post Malone may be known for topping charts, but recently it’s his transformation offstage that has caught attention.

The rapper and singer, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, has shed over 60 pounds since becoming a father in 2022 — and he says the changes come down to diet tweaks, ditching soda, and embracing the unexpected power of hot sauce.

Fans first speculated about his slimmer frame during performances in 2023, leading Malone to clear the air on Instagram.

“I wanted to say that I’m not doing drugs… I’ve had a lot of people ask me about my weight loss and I’d suppose, performance on stage,” he wrote at the time.

“I guess dad life kicked in and I decided to kick soda and start eating better so I can be around for a long time for this little angel.”

A Lifestyle Change Sparked by Fatherhood

The birth of his daughter in May 2022 became a turning point for Malone. Touring schedules and late-night meals had led him to weigh around 240 pounds at his heaviest. After embracing fatherhood, he felt motivated to take control of his health.

On The Joe Rogan Experience in August 2023, he described cutting soda as a game-changer. “Soda is so bad. It’s so good but so bad,” he admitted. “I was like 240 and now I’m like 185.”

Eliminating sugary drinks aligns with research. A 2022 study in Nutrients found that swapping just one sugary beverage per day for water helped participants reduce weight and improve overall health markers.

Discovering the Power of Hot Sauce

One of Malone’s most surprising weight-loss tools was hot sauce. On SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show in October 2023, he explained his “aha” moment:

“The first step was, I remember I went on tour, and I was like, you know what? I’m gonna eat grilled chicken, I’m gonna eat carrots, and I’m gonna have a little bit of white rice every night, with Buffalo sauce… Or not Buffalo sauce – hot sauce has no calories in it. I was blown away!”

Using hot sauce became a way to add flavor without piling on empty calories. It also helped curb late-night cravings for fried foods and pizza, staples of life on the road. He recalled, “Cutting fried stuff, a lot of pizza… made a huge difference. I lost 20 pounds doing that, and I was like, let’s keep going.”

The Results: Confidence and Consistency

By late 2024, fans saw Malone’s new look in full force — whether on stage at Coachella, headlining with Beyoncé at the NFL Christmas Day halftime show, or simply posting a mirror selfie.

In 2025, he even posed in a Skims campaign, stripped down to underwear and a cowboy hat in the Utah countryside. “It was really a lot of fun, it made me feel like a handsome son of a bitch,” he told GQ.

His current weight of under 185 pounds marks a loss of more than 60 pounds, or 27 kilograms. Beyond appearance, Malone says he feels more energetic, healthier, and motivated to keep improving. “Next up is smokes and brews,” he joked on Instagram, hinting at future goals.

Why His Approach Worked

Malone’s journey underscores key principles that experts recommend for sustainable weight loss:

  • Cutting sugary drinks: Eliminating soda can save hundreds of calories daily.
  • Prioritizing simple, whole foods: Lean proteins, vegetables, and moderate carbs provided structure during tour life.
  • Finding low-calorie flavor hacks: Zero-calorie condiments like hot sauce helped him avoid food boredom.
  • Consistency over quick fixes: Malone lost weight gradually over two years, maintaining progress without extreme measures.

Takeaway for Fans

Post Malone’s transformation shows how small but consistent changes can add up. Cutting soda, choosing grilled over fried foods, and using flavor-packed yet low-calorie additions like hot sauce helped him reclaim his health while navigating a demanding career.

Most importantly, the shift was motivated by something bigger than himself — being present for his daughter. As Malone put it, “I decided to start eating better so I can be around for a long time for this little angel.”

His story serves as proof that weight loss doesn’t need to be complicated. It starts with one step — whether that’s swapping a soda for water, or adding a splash of hot sauce to keep meals exciting — and builds from there.
