He’s Attempting 10 Ironman Triathlons in 10 Days Across 10 Cities… The Deeply Personal Reason Behind This Insane Challenge Will Move You

Endurance athlete and mental health advocate Ross Edgley has unveiled an ambitious challenge that pushes far beyond typical athletic feats.

He’s planning to complete 10 Iron Man distance triathlons in 10 consecutive days across 10 different UK cities, starting April 30th, 2026.

The project, aptly named “Project Tenacity,” holds deeply personal significance—it marks 10 years since his suicide attempt.

In a recent video filmed while cycling around Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Edgley broke down the intricate logistics, participation opportunities, and underlying mission that makes this more than just another endurance event.

The Route: 10 Cities, 10 Days, One Enormous Challenge

Edgley’s ambitious route will take him through Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol, and London. Notably absent? Birmingham—a deliberate exclusion he mentions with characteristic humor.

Each day will require completing a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run within official Iron Man cutoff times: 2 hours 20 minutes for the swim, 10 hours 30 minutes total for swim and bike combined, and 17 hours for the entire triathlon.

FULL-BODY TRAINING

If you want something simple that actually works, this is one of the most effective tools I’ve used to build strength, conditioning, and endurance without needing a full gym setup.

  • Full-body training with one weight using swings, squats, and presses
  • Solid cast iron build that feels stable and lasts for years
  • Comfortable grip that makes high-rep workouts easier to handle

His provisional targets are notably conservative:

  • 90 minutes for swim and transition
  • Around 6 hours on the bike (choosing predominantly flat routes)
  • 4-5 hours for the marathon run

Living On Wheels: The Mobile Base Camp Strategy

Transportation logistics pose significant challenges, particularly getting to and from Ireland. Edgley’s solution? Two RVs and support vehicles.

One RV will serve as his personal traveling accommodation and recovery space. A second will rotate crew members throughout the journey.

Support cars will provide additional assistance during bike segments and carry extra supplies.

Having a living space, so to speak, is going to be a core part of the planning just to make sure that things are as systemized and comfortable as possible. When I get off the run, I can chat some into a camera and just go.

Ferry schedules between Belfast and Liverpool represent the trickiest segments, requiring precise timing to stay on schedule.

Lessons From Ultra-Endurance Legends

Edgley has consulted with Sean Conway, who recently completed 105 Iron Man distance triathlons in 105 days. Conway’s primary advice? Respect the run above all else.

His main recommendation has been to take the run very, very seriously. Treat it like a double marathon at the end of each day. If you go too quickly on the run, you’re going to pay for it pretty direly the following day.

This wisdom has shaped Edgley’s conservative approach to pacing. Pushing too hard on the marathon portion could compound fatigue across subsequent days, potentially derailing the entire project.

Community Participation: The Heart Of Project Tenacity

Despite the extreme nature of his personal challenge, Edgley emphasizes that participation—not performance—drives this project.

I am at the end of the day an average triathlete. I would describe my skill set as well documented stubbornness.

Swimming pools will be rented in each city with bookable time slots available for small donations. Participants can swim whatever distance feels right—whether that’s a single length or multiple laps.

Bike participation involves more safety considerations. Closed circuits in Edinburgh and London are secured, with other locations being finalized.

Virtual participation options will also be available for those outside the UK or unable to attend in person.

The Deeper Purpose Behind The Numbers

Finishing on May 9th, 2026—exactly 10 years after his suicide attempt—gives Project Tenacity profound personal meaning beyond athletic achievement.

The ultimate aim of this project, if I’m speaking candidly, is to try and get people out of the house or participating in something that they might not otherwise have done if it weren’t for the project.

Edgley wants this challenge to inspire first steps—whether that’s someone’s first swim since childhood, first run in years, or first bike ride in decades.

Ambitious Media Coverage Plan

In keeping with his “well documented stubbornness,” Edgley plans to release a YouTube video the evening following each triathlon.

While a media team films everything and prepares a master documentary, editors will work around the clock to produce daily content. Videos will go live at 7-8 PM each evening while Edgley tackles the next city’s challenge.

The focus? Community stories rather than just athletic performance.

I don’t want this project just to be about another endurance event. I want it to be about the community, about the people involved, and the sort of diversity and variety that comes with being in all these different cities in the UK.

Equipment Strategy And Mechanical Contingencies

Edgley will primarily use a tri bike to minimize hip strain and maintain freshness for the run. A road bike will serve as backup if discomfort develops in the aerodynamic position.

Mechanical issues represent a significant risk factor. Quick solutions and spare equipment are essential to prevent time-chasing scenarios that could force him to push harder on the run—exactly what Conway warned against.

Nutrition: The Ongoing Experiment

Over the coming months, Edgley will experiment extensively with fueling strategies to determine optimal carbohydrate intake per hour, fluid consumption, and sodium requirements.

Assumption is going to be that I’m not going to be able to eat enough simply. It’s going to be very, very easy to undereat. It’s going to be very, very difficult to overeat.

Key nutrition considerations include:

  • Balance between whole foods and performance supplements (gels, powders)
  • Evening meal composition and timing
  • Mid-ride fueling strategies
  • Adjustments based on weather conditions and sodium loss

Multi-day racing without adequate recovery makes undereating dangerously easy. Trial and error during training will help identify what Edgley can stomach consistently under extreme fatigue.

Training In Real Time

Edgley’s training progression is unfolding publicly on his YouTube channel. His recent ride around Arthur’s Seat—completing 15 laps for just under 50 miles and nearly 1,300 meters of elevation—represents the kind of specific preparation he’s documenting.

This transparency serves the project’s larger mission: demonstrating that extraordinary achievements begin with consistent, sometimes uncomfortable training that anyone can adapt to their own level.

Registration links for participation are available now, with detailed information on swimming slots, bike segments, and virtual options rolling out in January 2026.
