Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr has earned her ticket back to the CrossFit Games after dominating the 2025 Torian Pro—but whether she’ll use it remains a mystery.

Now, CrossFit’s GM of Sport Dave Castro has publicly drawn a line in the sand: she has a deadline to decide.

The entire CrossFit community is watching. Will the six-time champ make a historic return, or will her win remain a final showcase of greatness without a Games encore?

The Victory That Reignited the Conversation

Toomey-Orr stormed through the Torian Pro with the dominance fans have come to expect, winning five of the six events. The performance left no doubt: even after giving birth just a year ago, she’s still in a class of her own.

But the win came with a catch. Unlike other athletes, Toomey-Orr hasn’t confirmed if she’ll compete at the CrossFit Games in Albany, NY. The uncertainty prompted Dave Castro to issue a rare public message—not only to Tia, but to the field of athletes whose fate her decision impacts.

“She Has a Deadline”—Dave Castro Speaks

In his Week in Review posted June 2, Castro addressed the elephant in the room. His comments weren’t vague. Tia has earned her place, but the clock is ticking.

“Tia won her event at Torian, so she has a spot to the Games,” Castro explained.
“She has a period of time to decide. We gave her a date—basically, until when she has to make a decision if she wants to use the spot or not.”

According to Castro, if she declines the invite, her Games ticket will pass to the fourth-place finisher at Torian. That’s because the second and third-place athletes already earned their qualification through previous events.

“We’re letting [the fourth-place athlete] know: ‘Tia has until X date to make a decision.’ And because of that, we want you to continue training—stay prepared,” Castro added.
“The date we gave her is fair to everyone. It gives the other athlete plenty of time to prepare for the Games.”

While he didn’t reveal the exact deadline, Castro emphasized that it’s a decision the team is handling with transparency and fairness.

What Makes This Moment So Critical?

Toomey-Orr isn’t just any athlete. She’s the winningest individual in CrossFit Games history—with six consecutive titles from 2017 to 2022. In 2023, she stepped away from competition to give birth to her daughter, Willow. Many assumed retirement was near.

But 2025 has proven otherwise. Her performance at the Torian Pro was both symbolic and strategic. She’s back in peak form. Yet her decision not to immediately confirm her Games participation suggests she’s weighing more than just fitness.

CrossFit analyst and former athlete Tommy Marquez commented on her mindset earlier this year, saying:

“Tia’s comeback is inspiring—but it’s also mature. She’s not racing to prove anything anymore. She’s thinking about legacy, about family, about longevity.”

Why Castro’s Statement Matters

Dave Castro making this discussion public is notable. Historically, CrossFit HQ has dealt with athlete communications behind closed doors. For Castro to bring this situation into the spotlight signals its importance—not just for logistics, but for the competitive structure.

There’s also the domino effect. If Toomey-Orr delays or withdraws too late, another athlete misses her opportunity to train properly for the Games. That’s why Castro’s ultimatum isn’t just procedural—it’s about competitive integrity.

“Only Tia knows what Tia is going to do,” he added, summing up the suspense.

The Fourth-Place Wild Card

Assuming Tia declines her invite, the fourth-place finisher from Torian Pro—Grace Walton, who took 2nd in Event 5 and showed serious promise—would get the call. For athletes in that position, the uncertainty can be a mental and physical strain.

But Castro’s statement ensures transparency.

“We’re telling [Walton] to stay ready. That way she gets a fair shot if the opportunity opens up.”

A Legacy on the Line

If Toomey-Orr competes, she could push for an unprecedented seventh CrossFit Games title. That would put her even further ahead of the field and potentially seal her legacy not just as the greatest CrossFitter of all time—but among the greatest athletes in any sport.

But if she declines, her Torian Pro performance may stand as the final chapter of her competitive career—a triumphant yet enigmatic return that leaves fans forever wondering: what if?

Final Thoughts

The sport of CrossFit is built on performance under pressure. Now, the pressure is on Tia—but it’s not just about reps and time caps. It’s about commitment, clarity, and timing.

Dave Castro has handed her the clock.

The community waits.
