In his latest video, Schofield broke down the key factors that make natural lifters appear significantly bigger than they actually are, ranking them from least to most genetic.

He emphasizes that while there’s nothing inherently unhealthy about sitting at 18-20% body fat, the visual impact pales in comparison to being 10% or leaner. The leaner someone gets, the more muscle definition becomes visible โ striations, individual muscle bellies, and separation around joints all pop dramatically.
Schofield makes a bold claim: most people watching could get “fake natty accusations” if they dieted down to true stage leanness of 5-6% body fat, even without exceptional muscle mass.

I don’t know why having an arm dominant physique gets you more steroid accusations. Doesn’t really make sense. There’s not really any kind of evidence or data there.

Some factors remain almost entirely genetic, though Schofield cautions against premature self-judgment.

Individual muscle definition, shape, and insertion points dramatically affect appearance when lean. Schofield believes most people judge their insertions too harshly, too early โ before building sufficient muscle to reveal their unique structure.
Statistically, nearly everyone possesses at least several muscle groups with interesting, advantageous characteristics that simply haven’t been uncovered through adequate development.
Waist Circumference as a Multiplier
Small waist measurements create optical illusions that enhance every pose. Schofield’s 30-30.5 inch waist at 200 pounds amplifies his upper body appearance โ purely genetic, not from vacuums or waist trainers.
I have a pretty small waist. At around 200 lb, it’s like 30, 30 and a half โ genetic. I didn’t do anything for that. I don’t have like a secret or an ebook for the waist to sell you.
