What’s MetFix, and why have 100 gyms already joined in just months?
In this hour-long podcast on the Two-Brain Business YouTube channel, Emily Kaplan—CEO of MetFix—breaks down the movement that’s redefining what it means to “coach health.”
It’s not a workout program. It’s a science-based system to reverse chronic disease, and it’s already being adopted by CrossFit affiliates around the world. If you care about impact, results, and real health education, this episode is a must-watch.
Here’s what makes MetFix different—and why it might be the next big thing in fitness.

A Community-Fueled Health Revolution
Emily Kaplan, an investigative journalist turned MetFix co-founder, describes the movement as “a community of people who get it” — people who believe in the power of lifestyle change to dramatically improve health.
“Greg likes to say we’ll be the hub for people who understand this,” Kaplan explained in a recent interview. “It’s not just theory. We know this works. Now we’re organizing around it.”
Glassman is no longer running a fitness empire. But he’s still pursuing his original mission: to fight chronic disease through truth, transparency, and effective action.
How MetFix Is Different From CrossFit
While CrossFit grew into a global fitness brand, MetFix is focused on education, health coaching, and clinical results. Think of it as healthcare applied through gyms — and beyond.
Here’s how MetFix differs from traditional fitness programs:
1. Deeper Educational Framework
MetFix trains coaches in metabolic health, physiology, and nutrition science. Kaplan says the curriculum is closer to a senior high school or college-level biology class — teaching how insulin works, how fat is stored and burned, and how movement influences energy systems.
“Every senior in high school should take this class,” she says. “It explains how the body works in a way that’s never been taught.”
2. A Focus on Chronic Disease Reversal
The goal isn’t just to get fit — it’s to get off medication, reduce symptoms, and reverse chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes. Kaplan points out that many healthcare systems only manage disease. MetFix aims to reverse it.
Coaches are trained not just to run workouts, but to support long-term behavior change, particularly around low-carb nutrition, fasting, and lifestyle interventions.
3. Not a Workout Brand
There’s no competition with CrossFit’s training methodology. In fact, most of MetFix’s first 100 affiliates are still CrossFit gyms.
“If someone told me they want to become a trainer, I’d still send them to get their CrossFit L1,” Kaplan said. “MetFix is for those who want to go deeper.”
MetFix is not a rebranding of CrossFit. It’s a deeper layer, focused on cell biology, chronic illness, and the metabolic roots of health.
Who Is MetFix For?
MetFix is designed for coaches and gym owners who want to make a bigger impact — not by adding more classes, but by changing lives through science-based education.
It’s especially valuable for:
- Gyms supporting middle-aged or older clients
- Trainers helping clients with weight loss or metabolic issues
- Doctors and health professionals integrating fitness into care
- Clinics and facilities wanting to offer a holistic approach
Kaplan describes the ideal affiliate as someone who values education and personal connection over volume.
“If you’re running big group classes with 50 people, this might not be for you,” she said. “But if you care about what people are eating and how they’re living — and want to back it up with real science — this is for you.”
Education That Empowers, Not Overwhelms
The MetFix curriculum includes:
- Deep dives into energy metabolism
- The science of insulin resistance
- Understanding lipolysis, fat oxidation, and ATP cycles
- Recorded talks from experts like Gary Taubes, Tom Seyfried, Zoe Harcombe, and Ivor Cummins
- Ongoing education for both coaches and medical professionals
This is not surface-level material. But it’s made digestible, practical, and applicable.
Kaplan emphasizes the need for backbone and confidence when educating clients. “You can’t just say ‘low-carb works’ — you have to understand why,” she says.
A Complement, Not a Competitor
Despite early confusion, MetFix isn’t trying to replace CrossFit. In fact, Kaplan estimates 99% of the first 100 MetFix affiliates were or are CrossFit gyms.
Instead, MetFix aims to fill the health education gap that many coaches feel but aren’t trained to address.
“You’re not going to reverse chronic disease with exercise alone,” she says. “You need the diet piece. And to deliver that effectively, you need the education.”
What’s Greg Glassman’s Role?
Glassman isn’t just quietly supporting MetFix — he owns and funds it. While he’s not involved in day-to-day operations, he regularly speaks to affiliates, contributes to the direction, and continues to champion the fight against sugar, pharma, and scientific corruption.
His past work — like suing the CDC and exposing flawed research — laid the groundwork for MetFix. But now he’s laser-focused on metabolic health, and Kaplan says his current passion is making the complex simple and actionable, just like in the early CrossFit days.
“Greg’s not interested in burpees anymore,” Kaplan admits. “He’s interested in solving for chronic disease at scale.”
A Network of Change Agents
The MetFix affiliate program is built around a tight-knit network of passionate coaches. The first 100 affiliates were handpicked for their commitment, longevity, and impact. The application includes:
- Essay questions
- Video submissions
- A vetting process that ensures mission alignment
Affiliates are supported by a powerful back-end dashboard, live webinars, forums, and marketing support, including SEO-optimized pages and localized PR support.
One standout feature: a video library where affiliates share their stories and best practices. For example, affiliates building kitchens in their gyms or launching nutrition-first feeder programs for CrossFit.
What Does It Cost?
At $2,000/year, the MetFix affiliate model is more affordable than CrossFit’s current $4,500+ fee. And you don’t have to choose — you can be both a CrossFit and MetFix affiliate.
In Kaplan’s words, “If the $2,000 is a barrier, then don’t affiliate. Just send your coaches to get MetFix certified.”
Where MetFix Is Headed
The goal isn’t explosive growth. Kaplan insists on intentional scaling that prioritizes education and impact over numbers.
While over 3,000 gyms expressed interest early on, she capped the first cohort at 100 to ensure systems were ready.
“Growth often kills startups,” she explains. “We’re going slow to do it right.”
The long-term vision includes:
- Rolling out MetFix in schools
- Supporting underserved communities (like launching free gyms in Compton)
- Expanding into clinics and healthcare facilities
- Continuing to fight corruption in science and healthcare
As Kaplan put it, “The point is saving lives.”

As Glassman himself said, “We’re not starting the movie from the beginning. We’re picking up where we left off.”
And the next scene might just be the most important yet.
