How We Picked the Best Products?

To decide which models to test, first, we spoke directly with some long-term users of these cardio machines in the fitness community. We went from gym to gym and visited several fitness clubs to survey users’ experiences with this popular piece of cardio equipment by NordicTrack.

But we didn’t stop there. We also spent hours going through customer reviews online and reading threads on forums like Reddit and Quora. And finally, with the information from our survey combined, we were able to narrow down the best NordicTrack series of ellipticals.

We selected the top three choices based on the following criteria:

  • Customer reviews – We chose NordicTrack elliptical options that had the most positive reviews;
  • Space – We took into account how the different models can fit into a home gym;
  • Price – On our list, you’ll find elliptical series in different price ranges.

How We Compared Each Product

Once we’ve narrowed down a list of the most popular NordicTrack ellipticals, we made a thorough plan on how to test them. Our experience tells us that the main features people look for in an elliptical machine are:

After carefully evaluating all these features, we also considered the size and weight of each product, as well as the ease of assembly and storage.

The Best NordicTrack Ellipticals for Home Use

To find the best NordicTrack Elliptical for your home gym, our staff has carefully examined almost every machine the company currently offers. These are some of the NordicTrack ellipticals that left the best impression on us, along with their features dissected in detail.

NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 Elliptical Training Machine – Best Overall

Most cardio nerds will love the NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 because it is a well-rounded elliptical that offers everything you would expect from a good elliptical workout and then some. With its wide, adjustable foot pedals, flexible arms, and padded grips, it offers all the basic features we mentioned earlier.

And to make your experience even better, the company also tossed in a large (14-inch) touchscreen monitor where you can check your workout stats. This is perfect as you can use it to stream videos or follow along with exercises from a personal trainer via iFIT.

NordicTrack’s streaming workout app, iFIT, is designed to work with its high-end machines like the Commercial 14.9 for a fully immersive workout. The iFIT workouts are an excellent way to reach your fitness goals faster. With this machine, you’ll get a 30-Day trial on the iFIT subscription.

As if this wasn’t good enough, the Commercial 14.9 allows you to tailor your workout and target specific muscles thanks to its stride length adjustment. You also get a wide incline range of 0-20% and 26 digital resistance levels. If you’re looking for an elliptical that multiple people can use, the adjustable stride length will come in handy.

Since you’ll be pushing your limits while pedaling, you should at least feel comfortable doing it, right? Well, cardio won’t get any more comfortable than when done on Commercial 14.9! Trust us, we’ve tried it! We loved the exceptionally comfortable grips, cushioned pedals, and, wait for it – the built-in workout fan!

When it comes to the flywheel’s weight, the Commercial 14.9 has one of the heaviest flywheels we’ve seen, one that weighs a whopping 32 pounds. This allows you to experience an extremely smooth rotation that doesn’t jerk or shake even at the highest speeds. Moreover, it means a more durable machine since heavier flywheels typically hold up better to regular use.

So, are we saying there are no downsides? Well, there aren’t, unless cost is a concern for you. The NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 does not really come at an affordable price. It’s currently sold at 2,855$ on Amazon, so if you’re not in a hurry, we suggest waiting for prices to drop or holiday sales.

Pros

  • A 32-pound flywheel weight that ensures stability
  • A broad incline range (up to 20%)
  • There are 26 digital resistance levels
  • Comfortable design with built-in fan
  • Touchscreen for iFIT streaming

Cons

  • On the more expensive side
  • Larger footprint than the other models
  • Doesn’t fold

Who It’s Best For

The NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 is the best option for cardio enthusiasts who want a high-end elliptical that ticks ALL the boxes.

NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE7i – Best Affordable Trainer

The SE7i is the cheapest elliptical NordicTrack currently offers. It has some notable budget bonuses for anyone searching for a high-quality elliptical that doesn’t cost a fortune: free shipping, a free 30-day iFIT trial, and 0% financing.

The main purpose of the NordicTrack ellipticals in the SpaceSaver line is to, you’ve guessed it, save space. These elliptical trainers can be folded up and stored vertically when not in use, making them an excellent choice for home gyms that also serve other purposes, including sheds, bedrooms, or home offices.

But, we’d like to stress that this elliptical still costs slightly more than a thousand bucks. And although you can find some decent ellipticals under $1,000, most lack the SE7i’s additional capabilities, such as a 10-inch touchscreen and built-in streaming fitness programs.

All, in all, we liked the simple setup. The main downside is that it shakes a lot, especially on higher resistance levels. We also found the 18” stride to be too short for some. And the HD screen, although practical, was too small compared to other models we tested.

Pros

  • Affordable elliptical
  • Foldable design
  • Touchscreen with streaming features
  • 0% finance

Cons

  • Tall users will find the stride length too small
  • 5” touchscreen may require you to strain your eyes
  • Shakes at higher levels of resistance

Who It’s Best For

The NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE7i is the best option for those looking for an affordable NordicTrack elliptical that doesn’t come with too many bells and whistles.

NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i Elliptical Trainer – Best Compact Elliptical

The Nordic SpaceSaver 7Ei made shockwaves when it first came out due to its innovative folding design. But, as we’ve said, it doesn’t have too many impressive features, but the company made up for this with its sibling – the 9Ei.

It shares many of the SpaceSaver 7Ei’s best traits, including the HD touchscreen monitor and foldable design that can be stored upright between workouts. Some of the upgrades it got are a larger screen (14″ vs. 10″), additional resistance options, and a motorized incline of up to 10%. The motorized incline allows you to switch the degree of difficulty in the middle of your workout so you don’t miss a beat.

What we loved the most about this model is the space-saving design (no wonder its name). The handles and console of the SpaceSaver SE9i conveniently fold down vertically onto its main body. And although the horizontal footprint isn’t significantly reduced, you may be able to tuck it away in a closet or perhaps under your bed.

But the shorter stride, 18 inches to be exact, is the price it pays for being so compact. The people on our team who are under six feet tall had no problem using it, but those who are taller had to decrease their strides when pedaling.

The only thing we found disappointing in our testing was that it shook a little. The machine has an 18-pound flywheel, which isn’t that bad, but still, it’s a far cry from those found on other NordicTrack ellipticals. And although it comes with a bottle holder, you won’t be able to fit anything much larger than a small plastic water bottle.

Pros

  • Compact and easy to store thanks to foldable design
  • Large touchscreen for iFIT workouts
  • Built-in fan
  • Cushioned pedals and comfy handles

Cons

  • Prone to shaking
  • The stride may be too small for taller people

Elliptical Machine Buying Guide

If you ask us, the above-described ellipticals are the best NordicTrack models, and you won’t make a mistake picking any of these. Nevertheless, don’t feel limited to only these options. The NordicTrack manufacturer of exercise machines offers a dozen additional models, and you can always explore other brands if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

And when searching for just the right model for you, consider the following factors to make the right buying decision.

Determine Your Space

Before you start shopping, you need to know how much space you have available for your elliptical machine. Ellipticals come in a variety of sizes, so it’s important to choose a model that fits comfortably in your home gym. Be sure to measure the space where you plan to put the machine and compare it to the dimensions of the ellipticals you’re considering.

Keep in mind that you’ll also need space around the machine for movement and to avoid hitting walls or other objects. You’ll want to have at least 18 inches of clearance on all sides of the machine. In a tight space, the NordicTrack Spacesaver E9i will be right at home.

Consider Your Fitness Goals

As you can see, despite being produced by the same manufacturer, all three elliptical exercise machines offer different features. That said, it’s important to consider your workout goals when choosing a machine.

If you’re looking to burn calories and improve your cardiovascular fitness, you may want a machine that offers a variety of resistance levels and workout programs. If you’re looking to target specific muscle groups, you may want a machine with adjustable incline settings.

Look for Adjustable Features

Adjustable features on an elliptical machine can help you customize your workout to meet your specific needs. Look for machines with adjustable stride length, which allows you to adjust the length of your stride to target different muscle groups and reduce stress on your joints. Adjustable pedals can also be helpful, allowing you to customize the angle and position of the pedals for a more comfortable workout.

Check the Weight Capacity

Make sure the machine you choose can safely support your weight. Most elliptical machines have weight capacities between 250 and 350 pounds, but be sure to check the specifications of the model you’re considering.

Consider the Warranty

All NordicTrack elliptical machines have a commercial solid steel construction, making them incredibly durable. Still, a warranty can provide peace of mind and protect your investment.

NordicTrack offers a warranty of up to 10 years on certain models, so be sure to choose a machine with a warranty that gives you the coverage you need. In general, you can expect a 10-year warranty on the frame, and a 2-year warranty for other parts.

Read Customer Reviews

Before making a purchase, it’s important to read reviews from other customers who have purchased the machine you’re considering. Look for reviews that mention specific points you’re interested in, like the machine’s durability or ease of use. Pay attention to any negative reviews and consider whether the issues mentioned are deal-breakers for you.

Try Before You Buy

If possible, try out the machine before you make a purchase. This can give you a better idea of how the machine feels and whether it’s a good fit for your body and fitness goals. Go to your local gym and check whether they might have the model you’re considering. Some fitness equipment retailers offer in-store trials, so take advantage of this if it’s available.

Consider Whether You’d Like Add-Ons and Accessories

Some elliptical machines come with add-ons and accessories that can enhance your workout experience. For example, some models come with built-in speakers or tablet holders, allowing you to listen to music or watch videos while you exercise. Other machines may offer Bluetooth connectivity or heart rate monitoring.

Consider Your Budget

NordicTrack machines come in a range of prices, so it’s important to consider your budget when making a purchase. While it can be tempting to opt for the cheapest option, keep in mind that a higher-priced machine may offer more features and durability. Consider how often you plan to use it and whether it’s worth investing in a higher-end model.

Take Advantage of Sales and Discounts

Finally, don’t be afraid to take advantage of sales and discounts when shopping for an elliptical machine. Many fitness equipment retailers offer sales and promotions throughout the year, so keep an eye out for deals that can save you money.

Choose a Reputable Brand

When choosing an elliptical machine, it’s important to go for a reputable brand with a track record of producing high-quality fitness equipment. NordicTrack is a popular brand with a wide range of elliptical machines to choose from.

But if you find that no NordicTrack model meets your needs, some other reputable brands include Sole Fitness, ProForm, and Horizon Fitness.

FAQs

Are Home Ellipticals Worth It?

Home ellipticals can be a great investment for those looking to improve their fitness and enjoy the convenience of exercising in the privacy of their home. There are several advantages to owning an elliptical machine for home use:

Convenience: With a home elliptical, you can exercise at any time, without having to travel to a gym or fitness center. This can save time and make it easier to fit exercise into your busy schedule.
Comfort: Home ellipticals allow you to exercise in the comfort of your own home, without having to worry about crowds, noise, or uncomfortable equipment.
Customization: Many home ellipticals offer customizable workouts, allowing you to adjust resistance levels, inclines, and other settings to suit your fitness goals and preferences.
Low-Impact Exercise: Ellipticals provide a low-impact workout that is easy on your joints, making it an ideal option for those with joint pain or injuries.
Cost Savings: Over time, investing in a home elliptical can be more cost-effective than paying for a gym membership or purchasing individual fitness classes.

Is a NordicTrack Worth It?

While the brand’s products often cost more than those of other brands, they have several advantages that make them worth the investment.
One of the main reasons to buy a NordicTrack elliptical is the high level of customization. The different models offer a range of workout programs, resistance levels, incline settings, and other features that allow you to tailor your workout to your individual needs and preferences. This can help keep you motivated and engaged, leading to better results over time.

What Is the Highest Rated Elliptical?

In our survey of gym goers and fitness enthusiasts, the number one elliptical from NordicTrack was the Commercial 14.9. We read many online reviews that also favored the SE9i. Our staff’s testing also rated 14.9 with the highest marks, and we found the SE9i to be only slightly better than the SE7i.

Which Is the Best Elliptical for Home Use?

It is difficult to determine the best elliptical trainer for home use as it depends on your individual needs and preferences. Ultimately, the best elliptical for home use is the one that fits your space, budget, and fitness goals while providing the features and functionality you desire.

By carefully reading through our full guide you’ll be able to decide which NordicTrack elliptical is best for you. And if none of the three options reviewed offers what you’re looking for, the manufacturer offers a range of other choices worth looking into such as the FS10i FreeStride Trainer, the Commercial 9.9, and the Studio Elliptical.

Is Elliptical Better Than Walking?

Both elliptical exercise and walking provide cardiovascular benefits and can be effective forms of exercise. However, elliptical workouts are low-impact and can be easier on your joints than walking or running. This makes them a good choice for those who have joint pain or injuries.
Additionally, most models offer adjustable resistance and incline levels, allowing you to customize your workout and challenge yourself.

Does Elliptical Burn Belly Fat?

No exercise, including elliptical training, can target fat loss in a specific area of the body, such as the belly. To lose belly fat, you need to create a calorie deficit by burning more calories than you consume. You can achieve this through a combination of exercise and a healthy diet. While elliptical workouts can contribute to this calorie deficit and help with overall fat loss, it is important to remember that spot reduction is not possible.
