Wes from the Carnivore Hunter recently celebrated a major milestone that took him 100 days to achieve.
He lost 40 pounds following the carnivore diet, dropping from 225 pounds to 185 pounds as a 5’9″ 37-year-old male.
But his journey wasn’t without obstacles—a month-long weight loss plateau nearly derailed his progress until he identified an unexpected culprit.
What he discovered about dairy might surprise anyone struggling with stalled weight loss on carnivore.

Breaking Through The Stubborn Plateau
Wes experienced rapid results initially, losing around 20 pounds within his first month on carnivore. By day 90, he’d reached 192 pounds—a significant 33-pound loss.
Then everything stopped. He hovered at 192 pounds for an entire month with no movement on the scale.
Most of you said, “Hey, your problem is your dairy.” And I kind of thought there was a chance of that anyway because like you watch like these carnivore influencers talk about like what’s going to kill your stall or what keeps you from losing weight or whatever and a lot of them say dairy.
Initially skeptical, Wes couldn’t understand how dairy would cause issues when looking purely at carb and calorie counts. But his audience proved right.
Heavy Cream: The Hidden Problem
Wes identified his specific dairy issue—an addiction to heavy cream in his coffee that spiraled out of control.
When I say I was using heavy cream in my coffee, like I was using and abusing some heavy cream in my coffee, which was something I’d never done before. Like I’d always just drink black coffee.
Over three cups of coffee daily, he consumed approximately half a cup of heavy cream—far more than reasonable amounts. This represented his biggest dietary change during those stalled 30 days compared to his successful first 60 days.
He wasn’t consuming excessive cheese or other dairy products. Heavy cream alone appeared responsible for halting his progress.
Dramatic Results From Simple Adjustments
After cutting back—not eliminating—his cream consumption, Wes broke through his plateau spectacularly.
He reduced intake from half a cup to approximately one tablespoon per coffee. The cream now only changed his coffee’s color without affecting taste.
In just seven to ten days, Wes dropped from 192 to 185 pounds—a seven-pound loss that finally brought him to his goal weight.
I went from 192 down to 185 in essentially like seven days. It made a huge difference. If you’re stalling out on carnivore, definitely consider cutting out dairy if that’s something that you feel you might be overdoing it on.
Why Dairy Causes Weight Loss Stalls
Wes acknowledged that individual responses vary—some people might tolerate heavy cream without issues. However, numerous carnivore practitioners and influencers consistently warn about dairy’s potential to stall progress.
The mechanism isn’t entirely clear from macronutrient counts alone. Bodies process foods differently beyond simple calorie mathematics.
100% dairy can screw you just because the, you know, carbs are low or the, you know, fat is whatever, calories or what, like you can’t always just look at the numbers. You do have to, you know, take into consideration that everybody’s body is different.
Dairy contains lactose (milk sugar), insulin-stimulating proteins, and compounds that may trigger inflammatory responses in sensitive individuals—all potential contributors to weight loss resistance.
Reaching A Significant Personal Milestone
Wes’s 185-pound goal held deep personal significance. That weight represented his lowest point since 2017 when he followed a Paleo diet.
Back then, he lost approximately 15 pounds and reached 185—his lightest weight since around 2010. Hitting 185 again meant returning to his best physical condition in nearly 16 years.
Starting at 225 pounds and losing 40 pounds in 100 days represents substantial progress, particularly for someone not beginning at extremely high weights where initial losses typically come faster.
Electrolyte Adjustments Along The Way
Beyond addressing dairy, Wes made changes to his electrolyte supplementation after experiencing issues with his previous product developing an unpleasant fishy taste.
He switched to Salty brand electrolytes purchased through Amazon, choosing both flavored (Endless Summer pink lemonade) and unflavored versions.
Key Electrolyte Numbers
- Sodium: 969 milligrams (comparable to other carnivore-friendly brands)
- Potassium: 410 milligrams
- Magnesium: 178 milligrams (significantly higher than his previous 60-milligram supplement)
The substantially higher magnesium content particularly interested Wes. He’d been experiencing symptoms suggesting magnesium deficiency, requiring separate supplementation.
After one week using Salty electrolytes, he discontinued his magnesium supplement pills without experiencing previous deficiency symptoms like nighttime cramping or headaches.
Lessons From 100 Days On Carnivore
Reflecting on his journey, Wes acknowledged he might have reached his goal in 70-75 days without the heavy cream detour. Still, he maintained perspective about one month over a lifetime.
He credited his YouTube documentation with providing crucial accountability. Starting his channel for personal accountability purposes, he unexpectedly found community support invaluable for maintaining consistency.
From a personal standpoint, like I’ve gotten so much more from this channel. Literally the people that comment and say, you know, that, “Hey, I seen your video and decided to start doing this and now I’m healing myself.” Like that’s, it’s, I mean, you almost makes you a little bit emotional.
Practical Takeaways For Carnivore Dieters
If experiencing weight loss plateaus on carnivore, evaluate dairy consumption carefully. Even if macronutrient numbers seem reasonable, individual responses matter more than calculations suggest.
Heavy cream in coffee represents a particularly easy place for excess consumption to creep upward unnoticed. Monitor portions honestly—amounts can escalate gradually without conscious awareness.
Consider electrolyte formulations with adequate magnesium (150+ milligrams) to potentially eliminate need for separate supplementation. Proper electrolyte balance supports overall wellbeing and may influence weight loss indirectly through improved sleep and reduced cramping.
Accountability mechanisms—whether through social media documentation, community involvement, or other tracking methods—significantly increase adherence likelihood for dietary protocols.
Wes’s experience demonstrates that sustainable results require patience and willingness to troubleshoot obstacles rather than abandoning approaches when progress temporarily stalls.
