He’s run through a mouth full of blood, taken four flights just to keep a streak alive, and laced up at 3 a.m. to make sure a cross-country flight wouldn’t end everything he’d built.
Hellah Sidibe — known online as “Hella Good” — has now run outside every single day for over 3,350 consecutive days, and the New Jersey-based YouTube star and running influencer isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
In a candid, wide-ranging conversation on the Rich Roll Podcast, Hellah opened up about what it actually takes to maintain one of the longest documented run streaks in the world — and the philosophy, pain, and people behind it.
What he shared will make you want to put your shoes on immediately.

The Rules That Make the Streak Real
Not all run streaks are created equal. Hellah’s comes with non-negotiables.
Rule number one: it has to be outside, no matter what. Treadmills don’t count toward the streak — full stop.
If you want something simple that actually works, this is one of the most effective tools I’ve used to build strength, conditioning, and endurance without needing a full gym setup.
- Full-body training with one weight using swings, squats, and presses
- Solid cast iron build that feels stable and lasts for years
- Comfortable grip that makes high-rep workouts easier to handle
My number one run streak rule — it has to be outside no matter the circumstances. Treadmill doesn’t count.
The minimum distance is a 5K — roughly 3.1 miles — though his daily average has historically been far higher. And yes, that minimum has been tested in ways most people couldn’t imagine.
After having a dental implant and wisdom teeth removed simultaneously, Hellah ran two miles the following evening despite his surgeon’s warnings about blood pressure and stitching. Within a single mile, his mouth was full of blood.
I said to myself, “One more mile and you’re done.” So I cut it at two miles and the following day it got better.
Then there was Australia in 2019. Rather than accept a GoPro-sponsored trip that would have required a direct flight from New York — too long to maintain the streak — Hellah mapped out a four-flight route through Los Angeles and Brisbane, running at each stop along the way.
He Doesn’t Clock Watch. He Runs East Coast Time — Everywhere.
One of the most surprising details about Hellah’s streak is how he manages time zones. His phone and watch are permanently set to East Coast Standard Time — no matter where in the world he lands.
The streak started in New Jersey, so New Jersey time is the only clock that counts. That means when it’s 9 p.m. in Los Angeles, it’s already midnight back home — and the window is closed.
He’s never boarded a flight before getting his run in. When a 6 a.m. flight once threatened his window, he was out running at 3 in the morning.

If I get stuck on a plane, what am I supposed to do? So I will never get on a flight before I run. I’ve never done that.
Rangry Is Real — And His Partner Calls It Every Time
Ask Hellah if he’s ever woken up not wanting to run and the answer is immediate: never. Not once in over nine years.
In fact, the only emotional disruption comes from the opposite scenario. He’s coined a term for it — and he’s claiming it.
You get hangry. I get rangry. I get mad if I don’t run — and I don’t even know that I’m mad until Lex calls me out.
His partner Lex has been with him for 14 years and has been the quiet engine behind everything — editing videos, managing content, and apparently functioning as his emotional barometer when a rest day sneaks in.
The reason he craves those runs so deeply? It’s where he thinks, processes, daydreams, and talks to himself — a habit he once thought was strange until he recognized it in the men he admired most.
I used to ask my dad why grandpa’s always talking to himself. And now I find myself talking to myself. When I go running, I’m talking to myself, I’m daydreaming, I’m pretending I’m in a race.
From Mali to New Jersey: Where the Positivity Actually Comes From
Hellah grew up in Mali, West Africa — a place where children made toys out of sticks and found genuine joy in them. He didn’t know he was missing anything until he came to the United States and saw kids with PlayStations.
That perspective became the foundation for everything. But it wasn’t always intact.

When a promising soccer career didn’t materialize, Hellah spiraled — jealous of peers living their dreams, making excuses, feeling stuck. He was cutting grass for $250 a week, eventually landing negative $900 in his bank account after a check bounced and his account was shut down entirely.
I got sick of being mad. I got sick of being jealous. I got sick of making excuses. You just feel disgusted about yourself. And then I tried to find ways to go back to how I used to be.
The turning point came from an unexpected place — sitting in his first-ever leased car, a Ford Mustang he’d scored with a 540 credit score, in the middle of a bad mood. He turned it on. And felt nothing.
I realized you can’t be happy because of things. Happiness comes from moments that you create with people.
The Decade Celebration Has a Name — and a City
With his 10th anniversary approaching in May — which will put him somewhere north of 3,650 consecutive days — Hellah is planning something bigger than a group run.
He’s calling it Hella Good Day. The vision: a full-day, carnival-style event in New York City where people can drop in at any time, run together, eat, and celebrate as a community. Sponsor Hoka is already involved in the conversations.
It has to be New York City. It’s all about the people. The people got me to where I’m at — so this is the year of the people.
What He’d Tell Anyone Still on the Couch
Hellah is 35, vegan, training for a 2:45 marathon at the 2026 Chicago Marathon, and building something for young people — particularly young men — that runs directly counter to the toxic content flooding their feeds.
For anyone watching from the sidelines and wondering where to start, he kept it simple.

When you start telling your brain “I’m good enough,” eventually you’re going to prove to yourself that you were right about it.
Gratitude. Self-talk. Small, attainable action. And if needed — a professional. That’s the full framework, and it comes from someone who built it from nothing.
He’s not asking anyone to run 3,350 days in a row. He’s just asking them to start — pressure-free, one day at a time, because they love it.
Everything else, he says, follows from there.
