“CrossFit has shaped me into the person I am today,” Davíðsdóttir shared. “It’s been the greatest adventure of my life.”

With her announcement, the Icelandic athlete steps away from an illustrious career that spanned over a decade, leaving behind a legacy that few in the sport can match.

A Storied Career: From Podium Wins to Resilience Through Struggles

Davíðsdóttir’s CrossFit career is marked by consistent excellence and unforgettable moments. She rose to prominence in 2015, claiming her first CrossFit Games title, a feat she repeated in 2016. Over the years, she earned four podium finishes, including a runner-up spot in 2020 and a third-place finish in 2018.

Her dominance extends beyond titles. With 13 event wins at the CrossFit Games, she ranks fifth all-time and third among women. From 2015 to 2020, she achieved an extraordinary six consecutive top-five finishes and ended her Games career with eight straight top-10 finishes.

But her career wasn’t defined solely by victories. “Twice I stood on top of the podium, and twice I failed to even qualify,” she candidly shared. “Through it all, I’ve learned what true success means—being proud of the effort I’ve given.”

A Master of Handstand Events

Davíðsdóttir’s mastery of handstand events became one of her defining traits. She won five CrossFit Games events featuring handstand walks and holds, including a standout performance in the 2020 Handstand Hold event, where her time of 2:54 exceeded the next closest competitor by 41 seconds.

Her skill in these events showcased not just athletic ability but also the mental focus and determination that set her apart in the CrossFit community.

Lessons in Resilience and Growth

For Davíðsdóttir, CrossFit was about more than competition—it was a journey of personal growth. Reflecting on her career, she emphasized the lessons learned through both triumphs and failures.

“Failures aren’t failures; they’re just hard lessons learned,” she said. “They’re only failures if you stop trying. If you keep going, they can become the greatest thing that ever happened to you.”

Her journey through challenges taught her the value of persistence and self-belief, shaping her into a role model for athletes worldwide.

Gratitude for the Journey

As she steps into this next phase, Davíðsdóttir expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who supported her along the way. “To my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and fans—thank you,” she said. “Your support and energy mean the world to me.”

She described arriving at her decision to retire with peace, feeling immense pride in her accomplishments and excitement for the opportunities ahead.
