Rapper, actor and wellness enthusiast Ludacris has spent years exploring every corner of the longevity universe.

From Himalayan salt caves to red light therapy, the 49-year-old hip-hop icon has experimented with cutting-edge treatments most people only read about.

But after two decades in the spotlight, he’s discovered something surprising: the basics work best.

In a recent interview with NewBeauty, Christopher Bridges—Ludacris’s given name—opened up about his practical approach to staying healthy on tour, his signature braids and why wellness doesn’t need to be complicated.

Why Ludacris Is Choosing Simple Over Extreme

Ludacris admits he’s tried just about every wellness trend imaginable. Salt therapy, cold plunges, red light sessions—you name it, he’s probably done it.

I’m a really curious person.

That curiosity led him to partner with One A Day for their “Health Doesn’t Need to Be Ludacris” campaign, which pokes fun at over-the-top wellness fads. The message is clear: health shouldn’t consume your entire day.

There’s only room for one Ludacris in this world, and it ain’t gonna be your wellness routine.

Instead of juggling dozens of supplements and complicated protocols, Ludacris focuses on foundational habits that actually move the needle.

Nowadays, you have a world trying to feed you so many different things to do, and it takes up so much time when you can just take a One A Day Multivitamin and that’s going to be half the battle. It’s simplifying life and just making sure you get your key nutrients.

Staying Busy After Two Decades of Success

More than 20 years after his triple-platinum debut album Back for the First Time dropped in 2000, Ludacris shows no signs of slowing down.

He’s recording new music, preparing for another installment in the Fast & Furious franchise (slated for 2028), and maintaining a schedule that would exhaust someone half his age.

That pace demands serious attention to health and fitness, no matter where he finds himself.

How Ludacris Eats While Touring

Finding nutritious food on the road can feel impossible, but Ludacris makes it work.

You have to find the healthy food choices no matter where you go, and it seems like the world is starting to conform to having those types of choices.

His strategy? Seek out organic, farm-to-table restaurants wherever possible. When those options aren’t available, he’ll hit up grocery stores and create his own meals.

Of course, perfection isn’t the goal. Ludacris has his indulgences too.

My go-to is probably chicken Alfredo. I love some sort of Italian food.

Working Out Five to Seven Days a Week, Anywhere

Exercise is non-negotiable for Ludacris, even when he’s traveling constantly.

You have to stay disciplined, and most people break on the road.

He works out five to seven days weekly, adapting to whatever space and equipment are available. Hotel gyms are his first choice, but he’s prepared to get creative.

I try to find the right gym—usually it’s at a hotel—or if not, then I’ll…find a place where I can be outside and do bodyweight things. If I am just in the room, then I’ll get some free weights, and I’ll get on Zoom with my trainer if he’s not with me.

His typical routine includes push-ups, squat jumps and strength training. When he’s home in Atlanta, he has access to a fully stocked garage gym complete with benches, squat racks, free weights and specialized machines.

The Underrated Wellness Habits That Matter Most

Fresh Air and Outdoor Movement

Spending time outside makes a massive difference in Ludacris’s mental state, especially given how much time he spends in transit.

I fly so much, and I’m on so much transportation [that] I like to get fresh air. That is something that is very underrated these days—fresh air.

Sometimes getting those steps requires going incognito while on tour.

Even if I am somehow kind of blending in and hiding in plain sight, just being able to breathe fresh air is very important to me since I’m trapped in so many planes, cars and hotels without balconies.

Staying Hydrated (Really Hydrated)

Ludacris takes hydration seriously—very seriously.

I try to replenish the electrolytes and other things you lose when you exercise.

His commitment to water went viral in 2024 when he drank untreated meltwater straight from an Alaskan glacier, launching what he calls his “water quest” to become the most hydrated person on Earth.

Sleep Trumps Everything

If Ludacris had to choose just one wellness habit to prioritize above all others, sleep would win.

Get enough sleep…that’s the number one priority.

Maintaining His Signature Look

Ludacris’s long cornrows and braids have become part of his iconic image. The biotin in his daily multivitamin supports keratin production, which helps maintain healthy hair according to One A Day.

Skin care matters too. He keeps things straightforward with moisturizer, usually reaching for Aveda lotion.

I’m just taking the best care of my skin and balancing my pH level.

Supporting Youth Through Wellness and Community

Since founding The Ludacris Foundation in 2001, the rapper has dedicated significant time and resources to underserved youth.

I do a lot of visits into hospitals and rehabilitation centers, and I’m really into making sure that those children…feel supported and feel loved, because a lot of them are not able to come outside.

The nonprofit offers programs focused on nutrition, physical activity and overall wellness—the same fundamentals Ludacris prioritizes in his own life.

The Full-Circle Approach to Longevity

For Ludacris, wellness isn’t compartmentalized. It flows through every aspect of his life, from his music to his film work to his philanthropic efforts.

Everything that I do is intertwined with the personality that I display in person, on screen and on stage. It all is like one big 360-degree circle of fun, youth, liveliness and vibrancy. It’s all about health, and the most important thing is having longevity.

After experimenting with countless wellness trends and biohacks, Ludacris has landed on a simple truth: consistency with the basics beats complexity every time.

Nutritious food when possible (with room for chicken Alfredo), daily movement, fresh air, plenty of water, quality sleep and a good multivitamin. That’s the formula keeping one of hip-hop’s most enduring stars healthy, energized and ready for whatever comes next.
