Mark Wahlberg, known for his incredible dedication to fitness, has revealed why he no longer follows the intense daily schedule that once went viral.

The 53-year-old actor, while promoting his new film Flight Risk, explained that he’s adjusted his approach to working out after realizing his old routine wasn’t delivering the results he wanted.

The Workout Routine That Shocked the Internet

Back in 2018, Wahlberg shared his extreme daily schedule, leaving fans stunned. His regimen included waking up at 2:30 AM, hitting the gym by 3:40 AM, and even squeezing in a second workout later in the day. His meticulously planned day also included cryotherapy sessions, multiple meals, and family time, all before an early bedtime at 7:30 PM.

Here’s a breakdown of his former routine:

  • 2:30 AM – Wake up
  • 3:15 AM – Breakfast
  • 3:40 – 5:15 AM – First workout
  • 9:30 AM – Cryo chamber recovery
  • 4:00 PM – Second workout
  • 7:30 PM – Bedtime

While his dedication was admired, many found it nearly impossible to keep up with.

Why Wahlberg Changed His Routine

Speaking to UNILAD, Wahlberg admitted that his grueling schedule was no longer sustainable.

“Those two-a-days are over, yeah that’s just too much,” he said. “I really was working myself into the ground, and I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any results.”

Now, the actor has simplified his approach, working out once a day, five days a week. The shift has allowed him to maintain his fitness without overtraining.

Staying Fit While Filming

Despite the demands of filming Flight Risk, which had a 22-day shooting schedule, Wahlberg still made time for exercise. The movie, directed by Mel Gibson, follows Wahlberg’s character as he transports a fugitive through the Alaskan wilderness, leading to intense drama aboard a small plane.

While filming in Las Vegas, Wahlberg stuck to a practical schedule:

“I was actually training during the movie. I’d wake up early, get it done, and then go to set. If I had a little break, I’d eat or take a quick nap. After a long 10, 12, or even 14-hour day, I’d go home and go right to bed.”

He also revealed that he sends a portable gym ahead of time to wherever he’s staying, ensuring he never misses a workout.

Mark Wahlberg’s New Workout Routine

After realizing that his two-a-day workout schedule was too intense and not yielding the results he wanted, Wahlberg made significant changes to his fitness routine. Now, he follows a more balanced and sustainable plan:

  • One workout per day, five days a week
  • Cold water therapy first thing in the morning to wake up and energize his body
  • Shorter, more focused workouts, typically lasting 45 minutes to an hour
  • Consistent prayer and mindfulness practice to start his day with intention
  • Portability and flexibility, ensuring he has access to a gym wherever he travels

Even while filming Flight Risk, Wahlberg stuck to this modified approach. He planned ahead, sending a portable gym to his location so he could keep up with training. His new philosophy prioritizes quality over quantity, helping him maintain peak fitness without overworking his body.

Wahlberg’s New Fitness Philosophy

Instead of overloading his body, Wahlberg now focuses on efficiency and recovery. His day still starts with prayer, followed by cold water therapy to wake him up before heading to the gym.

“I feel alive and then I want to go work out, even if it’s only for 45 minutes or an hour,” he shared.

He also spends time studying scripts well in advance so that when filming begins, he only needs to do minor refreshers.

The Takeaway: Balance Over Burnout

Wahlberg’s evolution in fitness shows that even the most dedicated individuals need to adjust their routines. His decision to scale back highlights the importance of listening to your body and prioritizing long-term results over short-term intensity.

So, if you’ve been feeling guilty about skipping a 4 AM workout—don’t. Even Mark Wahlberg knows that sometimes, less is more.
